Menopause :

Menopause actually means the permanent physiological or natural ending of menstrual cycles. It is referred to a stage in a woman’s life where she experiences certain changes indicating the end of fertility. Menopause generally starts after the ovaries which play a vital role in the body’s production of hormones, begin to shut down or are surgically removed. It is often called the "change of life." The body of a woman produces less amount of estrogen and progesterone which are the key hormones to make sexual behaviour and reproduction possible. Menopause generally occurs between the age of 45-55 years. A woman steps into menopause when she has missed her period for 12 consecutive months. There are some other symptoms also for which a woman needs to take necessary measures that can be obtained by consulting a doctor depending on a few things such as :

• Her age, health condition and medical history.
• Present symptoms.
• Her tolerance rate for specific medications, procedures, therapies etc.
• Her preferences.

The entire transition of menopause is separated into a few stages. Such as, Premenopause, Perimenopause, Menopause and Postmenopause .

1. Premenopause :

Premenopause or premature menopause is the kind of menopause which occurs at the age of 40 or earlier. The symptoms, such as, hot flashes, dryness in the vagina, loss of sexual interest are similar to those of menopause but the only difference is that they are a bit more fatal here. The risk of developing Osteoporosis is much higher in the women who go through premenopause. Premenopause could also be inherited from the previous generation.

2. Perimenopause :

Perimenopause literally means “around menopause”. It is the stage when a woman’s body gets near to menopause. The years before and after menopause is the “perimenopausal” phase of a woman’s life. A woman undergoes certain symptoms such as, fatigue, insomnia, frequent changes of mood etc. These symptoms are the repercussions of stopping of the production of reproductive hormones like estrogen and progestin. It is this time when a woman loses her fertility.

The symptoms of perimenopause are not common in all women. They vary from one woman to another. About one third of all women do not experience any symptoms besides having irregular or erratic periods; whereas another third of women undergo severe and lasting symptoms. The rest third have very few or moderate symptoms.

3. postmenopause:

Postmenopause is the stage after menopause. It refers to a time when a woman has missed her period for 12 consecutive months. During this stage, reproductive hormones may rise and fall and it takes quite a long time for it to go away.
